Talking to diets one day, a friend of said she could give up anything but roti. I said, No, the other stuff was more fun. But she said Think about it: would you enjoy alu gohst without it? Or gobi matar? Or dal?
And she was right: there are days when i try to cut down the no. Of rotis in my lunch and the meal becomes boring. However delicious the daal sabzi, they're incomplete.
How does one describe the taste of a roti? It's not salty or sweet or anything; it's wrapper, a foil, a base for other taste. And yet the smell of a phulka on a fire, getting speckled and puffing up, or a paratha being fried, turning golden brown, crisp outside and flaky within, and very definite flavours.
The one i find most compelling, though, is when the smell of one getting baked in a tandoor wafts across from somewhere; you can almost taste the crisp browned edges and the little bumps of air pockets; there's almost a sweetness to it, calculated to whip up an appetite.
Will continue........

Hi its me now.
I'm going to start a new blog. Don't know why but doing. Its wednesday, returned after the evening batch of swimming, listening to 92.7 mangalore edition, playing a great hindi song from parinita-chanda re chanda re.
What a song, love the vocalist.
Have HINDU in front of me, front page is completely filled by same old crap of yeddyurappa government. ''Trust vote again on thursday in karnataka'' and ''BJP EXUDES CONFIDENCE AS IT HAS THE NUMBERS'' the headline of the page says. And i think.... why do we need this, why can't we have trust in vote policy......because of our government or the mindset of our leaders. Anyways its not my job, nor i'm interested in politics. This is happening because opposing party think this should happen.......ahh not again......
Another news INDIA ELECTED TO U.N. SECURITY COUNCIL in polling for 10 seats that took place at the U.N. head quarters in New York, india received highest no. Of votes -187 out of 192 among all countries in the fray. S.M. Krishna said, "India will demonstrate to the world that India is good for the world."
hope he really mean that........
But todays news that attracts me is from a village many would't have heard 'DAWAL MALIK-GADAG DISTRICT'.
For most of those who have heard about a village having houses without doors, the first name that occurs to them is that of Shani Singnapur, a village located in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra.
However, many are not aware of the existence of the similar village in Karnataka. While Lord Shanaischara protects the village in Shani, it is the Sufi saint Dawal malik who protects the residents of the hamlet called Dawal Malik.
What is more significance is that it attracts people of all faiths.
On thursday and Amavasya, hindus and muslims throng the Dawal Malik Dargah located atop a hillock.
Great place......where faith still lives......
